Collaboration between an architectural photographer and Heinle, Wischer und Partner
In autumn 2022, the Wrocław office of Heinle, Wischer und Partner contacted me with a proposal to photograph their latest architectural project in Warsaw. The project was the Copernican Revolution Lab building located in the Powiśle district, developed on the basis of a competition-winning design selected in 2017. The architects were looking for calm, static images, with low contrast and without unnecessary elements of the surroundings. At the same time, I was given full freedom to choose the time of day and shooting conditions, which I found very inspiring. One of the key elements of the building is its ETFE façade, so I focused particular attention on photographing its structure. The transparent air-filled cushions react strongly to changing light conditions, which played an important role in shaping the final images. I started the shoot before sunrise, when dense fog covered the Vistula River. Later, I photographed the building in full daylight as well as at sunset. I complemented the session with drone photography to show the architecture in a wider context of the Vistula river boulevards and the surrounding urban fabric, including the Copernicus Science Centre. Interior photographs were created in a calm and restrained manner, focusing on the clarity and functionality of the modern office and laboratory spaces.
Further projects and the development of collaboration
Another commission from Heinle, Wischer und Partner was an architectural photography shoot of the Public Services Centre in Opole. The project consists of two independent volumes forming a coherent administrative complex. As before, the shoot lasted the entire day, from sunrise to sunset. This approach allowed me to fully capture the character of the architecture and its relationship with the surrounding public space. In the following years, I also carried out an architectural photography session of the Amphitheatre in Sochaczew. The building is embedded in the landscape of Castle Hill and the riverside boulevards, therefore it was important to show its relationship with greenery and the natural terrain. While photographing the amphitheatre, I focused both on the architecture itself and on the surrounding public space. The session included images taken at different times of day as well as drone photography, which helped to emphasise the landscape character of the project. At the same time, I completed photography sessions of the District Court buildings in Częstochowa and Sosnowiec. In both cases, I delivered full architectural photography projects, including daytime, evening, night-time and drone images. In Sosnowiec, which was the most recent project, I paid particular attention to the monumental form of the building and to the role of natural light in shaping the interior spaces.
Architectural photography as a long-term collaboration
Each of these projects involved a complete architectural photography shoot, covering a wide range of lighting conditions and aerial perspectives. My collaboration with Heinle, Wischer und Partner is an example of a long-term relationship between a photographer and architects, built on trust and a shared understanding of the role of imagery in presenting architecture.
