Architecture Photography

Architectural photography is the art of capturing the beauty and functionality of buildings and urban spaces. As an architectural photographer based in Warsaw, I specialize in creating images that not only document but also tell the story of a place. My architectural photographs show both construction details and the broader urban context. I offer my photographic services not only to residents of the capital, but also to clients from all over Poland. I am also able to carry out commissions for international clients.

The specificity of building photography

Architectural photography requires not only technical skills, but also an understanding of the aesthetics and functions of buildings. Capturing proportions, lines, and light that emphasize the uniqueness of each structure is crucial. In my work, I strive to convey the character and atmosphere of the places I photograph. Thanks to experience gained during numerous photo sessions in Poland and abroad, I am able to adapt to various lighting and architectural conditions. My approach to architectural photography is based on close cooperation with the client in order to understand their vision and expectations. Every architectural photograph is the result of careful planning and attention to detail.

What goal does an architectural photographer pursue?

Architectural photography should objectively tell the story of a building and its surroundings. It should present the real context, the strengths of the design, the quality of the architecture, and the created public spaces. Following the principle of “from the general to the detail,” I always try to present a building starting with its location—how it influences the city and the surrounding development. This is most often achieved through aerial photography (using a drone) and urban photography taken from greater distances, showing a broader context.

With every session, it is also important to me to show the attractiveness of the building, its character, and its details—how it appears at different times of day and night, and how it relates to its surroundings. An equally important element (and probably the most challenging) is presenting how the building functions and how it is used by people.

What influences the character of my building photographs?

Key elements when planning photo sessions include analyzing the weather and the angles of sunlight falling on the façades. Sunrise and sunset times are also important to me. All of this information makes it possible, already at the preparation stage, to assess when the best conditions for photography will occur, in order to present the architecture as fully as possible. In most cases, I take photographs in sunny weather with light cloud cover. Sometimes I manage to achieve surprisingly interesting effects during unexpected fog or rain. Everything depends on the type of building I am photographing.

The importance of architectural photography

Architectural photography plays a key role in documenting and promoting construction projects. The building photographs I create on a daily basis are essential for developers, architects, and public institutions that want to present their projects to a wide audience. Professional photographs help build a positive image of an investment and attract potential clients. Thanks to the work of an architectural photographer, clients can see not only the aesthetics of buildings, but also their functionality and use in everyday life.

Architectural photography is not only visual documentation, but also a communication tool between designers and end users. My work helps people understand and appreciate the value of architecture in a social and cultural context.

Here are examples of my successful projects.

Architectural Photography Warsaw

Due to my place of residence, most of my collaborations take place in Warsaw. Each of them is unique and includes a wide variety of commissions. As part of architectural photography services in Warsaw, I have collaborated, among others, with the Interiors studio, for which I photographed, among other projects, the headquarters of Wójcik Ventilation as well as a Notary Office in Warsaw. I have also carried out photo sessions for many residential developments, including Modern City and Royal Residence. My lens has also captured the National Stadium, the University of Warsaw, the Warsaw Rising Museum, and the National Audiovisual Institute.

Architectural Photography Gdańsk

Among the many buildings I have had the opportunity to photograph in Gdańsk, I most vividly remember working on a photo session of the Holiday Inn hotel, located in a representative area on Granary Island in Gdańsk. The building, designed by the RKW Architektur+ studio, refers to historical development in a very interesting and contrasting way. In the photographic report, my goal was to show this contrast—the monumental form and the way the hotel relates to the surrounding buildings. I carried out a full photo session that included architectural photography, interior shots, and drone photography. The entire project was completed at different times of day and night.

Another example of an interesting architectural photography commission in Gdańsk was cooperation with the Sopot-based studio Warsztat Architektury Pracownia Autorska Krzysztofa Kozłowskiego. On behalf of the firm, I photographed two neighboring buildings—the Institute of Biotechnology and the Faculty of Chemistry. The buildings are located on the campus of the University of Gdańsk. Our main goal was to show the modern form of both buildings and how students use them on a daily basis.

Architectural Photography Kraków

Over more than ten years of work as a professional architectural photographer, I have had the pleasure of photographing more than 60 residential and office buildings in Kraków. The vast majority of these sessions were carried out for the architectural studio B2 Studio. Over the last three years, I photographed more than 30 buildings in the city on behalf of the firm. Among the most interesting projects were the Unicus Palace Hotel on Floriańska Street, the pavilions at the Kraków Zoo, and one of the newest developments—the residential building at Barska 69. Another significant client for whom I carried out architectural photography in Kraków is one of the largest Polish IT companies—Comarch. Between 2016 and 2020, I photographed, among other things, their newest office and laboratory buildings (SSE6 and SSE7) on the campus at 27 Prof. Michał Życzkowski Street.

Architectural Photography Poznań

The architectural photography I have carried out in Poznań has mainly involved large commercial buildings. I collaborated, among others, with the international architectural firm CallisonRTKL, which is the designer of the Posnania Shopping Center. The photo session I completed in 2018 included comprehensive photographic documentation—exterior shots (during the day and night), interior photographs with customers, and drone images showing the scale of the building. On behalf of Vastint Poland, I had the pleasure of photographing the modern Business Garden Poznań office complex. As with other projects of this type, our goal was to show modern architecture integrated with greenery and public spaces that are friendly to employees.

Architectural Photography Szczecin

The most spectacular building I have had the pleasure of photographing in Szczecin is undoubtedly the Szczecin Philharmonic. The building, completed in 2014, has received countless awards, including the most prestigious one in architecture—the Mies van der Rohe Award. In recent years, I have also had the opportunity to photograph the architecture of the newest residential developments built by SGI in Szczecin. The developer, which has been present on the Szczecin market for over a decade, entrusted me with photo sessions of the Nautica, Chabrowe, and Jarzębinowe housing estates.
