Architectural Photography

Architectural photography should objectively tell the story of a building and its surroundings. It should present the real context, the merits of the project, the quality of the architecture, and the created public spaces. Following the principle of “from the general to the specific,” I always strive to present the object starting from its location – how it influences the city and neighboring buildings. This is most often achieved through aerial photography (using drones) and urban photography taken from a distance, showing the broader context.

For every session, I also aim to showcase the attractiveness of the building, its character, and its details. How it presents itself at different times of the day and night, and how it interacts with its surroundings. Equally important (though perhaps the most challenging) for me is to depict how the building functions and how its users interact with it.
Key elements in planning photo sessions include analyzing the weather and the angles of sunlight on the facades. Information about sunrise and sunset times is also crucial. All this data allows me, even during the preparation stage, to determine the best time for capturing photos to fully represent the architecture. In most cases, I photograph under sunny conditions with minimal cloud cover. Sometimes, I achieve surprisingly interesting effects during unexpected fog or rain. It all depends on the type of object I am photographing.

Architectural Photography in Gdańsk

Among the many buildings I have had the opportunity to photograph in Gdańsk, I most fondly recall working on the photo session for the Holiday Inn hotel, located in a prominent spot on Wyspa Spichrzów (Granary Island) in Gdańsk. The building, designed by RKW Architektur +, references the historical architecture in a very interesting and contrasting way. In the photographic report, I aimed to highlight this contrast – the monumental form and how the hotel interacts with the neighboring buildings. I conducted a full photo session, including architectural photography, interior shots, and drone photography. The entire work was carried out at different times of the day and night.

Another example of an interesting architectural photography assignment in Gdańsk was my collaboration with the Sopot-based architectural firm Warsztat Architektury Pracownia Autorska Krzysztofa Kozłowskiego. At the firm’s request, I photographed two neighboring buildings – the Institute of Biotechnology and the Faculty of Chemistry – located on the campus of the University of Gdańsk. Our main goal was to showcase the modern form of both buildings and how students use them daily.

Architectural Photography in Kraków

Over more than ten years of working as a professional architectural photographer, I have had the pleasure of photographing over 60 residential and office buildings in Kraków. The majority of these sessions were conducted for the architectural firm B2 Studio. Over the past three years, at the firm’s request, I have photographed over 30 buildings in the city. Among the most interesting projects were the Hotel Unicus Palace on Floriańska Street, pavilions at the Kraków Zoo, and one of the latest projects – the residential building at Barska 69. Another significant client for whom I have done architectural photography in Kraków is Comarch, one of Poland’s largest IT companies. Between 2016 and 2020, I photographed their newest office and laboratory buildings (SSE6 and SSE7) on the campus at ul. prof. Michała Życzkowskiego 27.

Architectural Photography in Poznań

The architectural photography I have done in Poznań mainly involved large commercial buildings. I collaborated with the international architectural firm CallisonRTKL, the designer of the Posnania Shopping Center. The photo session I conducted in 2018 involved comprehensive photographic documentation – exterior shots (during the day and night), interior shots with clients, and drone photography to show the scale of the building. At the request of Vastint Poland, I had the pleasure of photographing the modern office complex Business Garden Poznań. As with other similar projects, our goal was to showcase the modern architecture integrated with greenery and public spaces friendly to employees.

Architectural Photography in Szczecin

The most spectacular building I have had the pleasure of photographing in Szczecin is undoubtedly the Szczecin Philharmonic. The building, completed in 2014, has received countless awards, including the most prestigious in architecture – the Mies van der Rohe Award. In recent years, I have also had the opportunity to photograph the latest residential developments by SGI in Szczecin. The developer, which has been active in the Szczecin market for over a decade, entrusted me with photo sessions for the Nautica, Chabrowe, and Jarzębinowe housing estates.
