Collaboration with Blank Architects
My collaboration with Blank Architects, an architectural studio based in Moscow, began several years ago. As part of this cooperation, I travelled to Russia on two occasions to produce architectural photography for the studio’s latest projects. Each assignment involved full photographic sessions, including exterior views, architectural details, and images taken under varied lighting conditions.
Office and Commercial Projects in Russia
The photographed projects included primarily office and commercial buildings located in Moscow and Saint Petersburg, as well as in other regions of the country, such as Lipetsk and Kursk. One of the key projects was the ComCity office complex in Moscow, situated along Kievskoe Shosse. This large scale development consists of multiple office buildings connected by shared infrastructure and retail functions. Photographing the complex required working at an urban scale and clearly showing the relationship between architecture, landscape, and transportation networks. Drone photography played an important role in presenting the overall layout and spatial context of the project. I also photographed shopping centers designed by Blank Architects, including Europa Shopping Center and Mari Shopping Mall. In these cases, the focus was on capturing the expressive architectural forms, façade design, and the way the buildings function within the urban environment, both during the day and after dark. These projects were a significant logistical challenge. Coordinating schedules, permits, and weather conditions required flexibility and careful planning. At the beginning, language barriers during communication with building owners and facility managers were also demanding, but they were quickly overcome and the entire process ran smoothly.
Single Family House and International Publications
Alongside the projects in Russia, I also completed an architectural photography session of a single family house designed by Blank Architects in Poland. The project stood out for its sensitive integration into the surrounding landscape and its thoughtful use of views and natural light. Photographs of this house were widely published in international architectural media, including ArchDaily, and the project was shortlisted for the World Architecture Festival.
